Forest Nursery Systems CC has its mission to provide forestry customers with specialist support in containerised nursery and seed centre operations.

The company was founded by H.O. (Heinz Otto) Reinstorf in early 2000 with its core business consulting to containerised forest nursery and forest seed centre projects around the world.

Mr Reinstorf completed a B.Sc. Forestry Honours degree in 1992 majoring in Forest Engineering at Stellenbosch University (South Africa). He has gained hands-on experience over a period of 8 years managing forest nurseries in South Africa and Malaysia (refer to his CV). He is currently holding the position as Director with his main responsibility as Forest Nursery Specialist.

Biographical Sketch

Heinz Reinstorf (born 4 December 1968, Stellenbosch – South Africa) holds a B.Sc. Honours Forestry degree from the University of Stellenbosch which he completed in 1992.

In 1993 he assisted with the development of the Environmental Policy and Monitoring programme for Hunt Leuchars and Hepburn (HL&H).

In 1994 he was appointed as the company’s Nursery Production Manager. The company operated three clonal nurseries producing 15million cuttings annually from a variety of Eucalyptus hybrids.

In 1996 he joined the Indonesian based APP Group in the East-Malaysian State of Sarawak on a three-year contract as nursery manager. The main task was to build a central containerised nursery facility with a 50 million per annum output.

In 2000 he completed his contract and returned to SA to start his own private consulting company, Forest Nursery Systems CC. His main field of interest is large-scale containerised production of fast-growing forestry species.

His company provides professional services mainly to the Swedish nursery equipment manufacturer and supplier, BCC (Björkemar Consulting and Construction), with a number of smaller part-time contracts to customers in Asia and Africa.

His main focus is on nursery and seed centre development projects world-wide. He spends a considerable amount of his time travelling to projects in Asia, Africa and South America, 50 countries over the past 30 years.

His main tasks include:

Designing, planning and budgeting for new nursery and seed plant projects.

Feasibility studies for the upgrading, modernisation and expansion of established nurseries.

Project facilitation and coordination.

Propagation training to nursery staff.

Planning, design, construction and management of a central nursery for the company to ensure adequate supply (50 million/annum) of high quality plants (mainly Acacia spp.) to meet its eventual planting program of approx. 40,000 ha / annum.

Main responsibilities:

  1. Development of a central nursery for BPP including all planning and preparatory work, i.e. site survey and identification, site clearing and earth works;
  2. Design and construction of all nursery infrastructure with a production capacity of 50 million plants per annum;
  3. Planning and overseeing the construction of all nursery support infrastructure including offices, stores, manager’s, staff and workers’ accommodation, water supply, electricity supply and sewerage systems;
  4. Development of a plant transport system including the designing and planning of custom designed delivery trucks;
  5. Planning and implementing systems and procedures for the production of cuttings;
  6. Overall management of plant production consisting of seedlings and cuttings;
  7. Planning manpower requirements, employment of staff and workers, on-the-job training of workers and development of staff;

  9. Managing all site servicing, maintenance and fabrication, further site development work and accommodation of staff and workers;

  4. Visiting new and existing projects around the world to consult and assist with planning and design of new facilities, planning the upgrading of existing operations, assistance with expansion projects, training of propagation techniques and skills in new and existing nursery projects.
